New Sang Chong Market is a bustling Asian supermarket located in San Leandro, serving a diverse mix of the local Oakland, San Lorenzo, and San Leandro communities. If you’re on the hunt for a wide range of Asian groceries—from Chinese staples to rare Taiwanese finds—this market offers a deep selection that spans fresh produce, meats, seafood, and specialty packaged goods from across Asia. The store’s layout, however, reflects its busy and somewhat packed nature, with aisles that can feel a bit chaotic, especially on weekends when foot traffic peaks.

The market’s size means you can usually find interesting items that larger chain supermarkets or even other Asian markets don’t carry, making it appealing for shoppers looking for authentic ingredients or harder-to-find snacks. The produce section, particularly the outdoor fresh fruit and vegetable area, offers good value and quality, which makes it a popular stop for locals stocking up on fresh weekly essentials.

While the market also includes prepared foods like Chinese BBQ and a small bakery, customers have noted mixed experiences here, particularly with the ready-to-eat options which can sometimes lack seasoning or feel rushed—something to keep in mind if you’re stopping by for a meal rather than groceries.

Parking can be a challenge during busy weekday and weekend times, reflecting the market’s popularity but also requiring a bit of patience. The store tends to attract a wide range of visitors—from families and regular shoppers to elderly customers using wheelchairs who appreciate the generally accessible space despite some cramped corners.

For those who value convenience and breadth in their Asian grocery shopping, and who don’t mind navigating a lively, sometimes cluttered environment, New Sang Chong Market delivers a practical and familiar experience that mirrors the vibrant, multicultural fabric of the East Bay neighborhood.

Not a bad place for Asian groceries but the layout seems a bit disorganized and chaotic. I was looking for specific items for a while, with piles of items here and there. The store and nearby food places in the mall is popular so expect challenging parking at peak times.

Good asian market that's priced competitively! It has lots of things other markets don't have. However it loses a star for the BBQ. I ordered a rice place with roasted pork and duck and it was dry and pretty tasteless. They didn't add any gravy to the rice and the cabbage side was completely unseasoned. For $15 it's a deal, but with how much food is available, there's better out there. Lots of great vegetables, fruits, and meat/fish choices. Good for if you're in town. Skip the hot food though.

A pretty spacious asian market with a nice selection of produce. They have some quality fresh fruits and vegetables on the outside area of the store thats priced decently. Theres a lot of Chinese products throughout the store but you'll also find tidbits of products from all over Asia too. The last time we went there, we saw 2 elderly customers in there with wheelchairs so this place is pretty big and wide for shoppers. They have a live seafood section, a butcher section, and even a deli/Chinese BBQ area that sells roast duck, char siu,and other roasted meats. For the area, the prices are fairly decent all around. The parking lot is shared with other shops and restaurants in this strip mall area so the parking is more than plenty. Theres so much products and produce to be discovered here if you take your time and looked around.

Busy on the weekdays and chaotic on the weekends, New sang chong caters to the oakland san Lorenzo and san leandro community that is looking for a safe and relatively clean place to shop for groceries. As with most if not all Asian supermarkets, it has it all. Fresh seafood, meat counter, Chinese BBQ, small bakery etc. There's a very good selection but the store is too packed. There's an empty space next door where the Ace hardware used to be but they haven't expanded into it. It would help with the congestion.. Prices are low to moderate. The store gets busy and fresh food items turn around quickly. Fresh fruit is sold outside in front of the store and there is a large selection. The whole complex is being remodeled and updated restaurants are opening. There is a chinese seafood restaurant right next door. If you like to eat where the locals eat and perhaps shop where the locals shop, give new san chong a try.

A nice store. Found some traditional Taiwanese products that are rarely seen even in Taiwan.

This is a fantastic place for Asian groceries, and it's slightly better now after its renovation. They have a huge selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, and their meat and seafood sections are decent, especially the live options. You'll find delicious roasted ducks and pork at the deli, which are a must-try. The market also has a wide variety of sauces, snacks, and specialty items from all over Asia. It's quite busy though!

Drop by to purchase crab for lunch. Excellent service. English a bit difficult to understand but no issue. Overall store well apportioned and stocked. Do not recommend for doggie. Enjoy.

This place a great little market. When shopping dont anticipate being able to use Tap/Apple pay. Ive gone in for a quick few items and their machines dont process the Tap pay. Although I used tap pay in several business next door to the shop. I typically walk up from home and dont want to bring extra stuff. So, make sure to have physical cards.
